About B.Voc

B.Voc is the brain child of Glocal University as an answer to the exhortation of UGC in 2016 to spread the concept of learning while working as against the traditional way of learn and try for job. It supports the goal of the central government to scale up the quality of human resources as the integral part of the new education policy. B. Voc courses are not child’s play which rolls out inept graduates from education factories. Here the students are not left at the mercy of fate to run after professional experience and work knowledge. On the very induction the students start to receive job training in the industry vertical in which they choose to graduate.

The course is programmed to contain 60% work experience input and 40% theoretical knowledge put in the discipline, the latter which they receive either at the work place or from the institutions arranged by the university. B.Voc courses focus on professional experience with theoretical knowledge added to it. These courses are beneficial to students in two ways. The persons who already working can acquire more theoretical knowledge in their field of working and improve their career with a graduate degree and those pursuing education are trained and educated as professional to find better opportunities as graduates experienced in the profession.

Objectives

The main objectives of this scheme are given below:

  • To provide judicious mix of skills relating to a profession with appropriate content of general education.

  • To ensure that the students have adequate knowledge and skills, so that they are job ready at each exit point of the programme.

  • To provide flexibility to students by means of pre-defined entry and multiple exit points.

  • To integrate NSQF within the undergraduate level of higher education in order to enhance employability of the graduates and meet industry requirements. Such graduates apart from meeting the needs of local and national industry are also expected to be equipped to become part of the global workforce.

  • To provide vertical mobility to students coming out of (a) 10+2 with vocational subjects; and (b) Community Colleges.

Levels of Awards

The certification levels will lead to Diploma /Advanced Diploma/B. Voc./M.Voc. Degree in one or more vocational areas and will be offered under the aegis of the University. This is out-lined in Table 1.

Job Prospects and Outcomes

  • Vocational courses are educational disciplines that enable individuals to acquire skills that are required for any particular trade. Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc.) is a full Degree program approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) and recognized by Universities all over India and abroad. With a B.Voc. Degree in a particular skill set, one can apply for specific skill based Visa rather than general work permit for foreign immigration.

  • Closer home, it also means that B.Voc. has all the privileges another Degree holder (BA, B.Com, B.Sc., or B.E.) enjoys, like going for Post-Graduation, taking UPSC, Bank, Railways exam etc., where basic Degree is a requirement. The B.Voc. programme focuses 60% on skill development and 40% on theoretical knowledge to help the student to acquire all the skills required for the domain and prepare them for the job market or entrepreneurial role. The course curriculum is structured in way that students will able to get a job opportunity at the end of each year.

Importance of B.Voc Certification Program

  • We live in the age of universal education which upholds the right of education to all. The government – both central and state- aims at the improvement of gross enrolment ratio in higher education through vocational degree courses as the most fruitful method of enhancing the quality of human resources culminating in the reduction of rural and urban unemployment and knowledge and career improvement of the existing professionals. As soon as the students get enrolled for the courses, they are offered the facility of work training in the trade with an institution arranged by the university. The courses are meant to mould expert professionals in the field of career in all industry verticals. Hence, B.Voc courses complying with all the stipulations of NSQF and UGC bearing special orientation on vocation would excel any regular degree or diploma in depth or extent of knowledge dissemination.

  • Unlike the regular degree, no effort or time is wasted in pursuing the B.Voc courses. Taking the constraints of the students in to consideration we give value to their time and effort. B.Voc is a three year degree course after higher secondary course, with multiple entry and exit points. Hence, after the completion of the first year the students receive a diploma certificate and completion of two years make them eligible for an advanced diploma certificate. They are crowned with a valuable B.Voc degree with the completion of three years successfully.

  • The most glaring positive feature of the B.Voc courses is the emphasis on the vocational proficiency. With no compromise on the theoretical aspect, the total learning task is comprised of 40 % education theory and 60 % practical (Vocational component).
